Tonight im going to share another story with you. This time its about Lady my three legged eleven year old greyhound who everyone at AHAR adores.
It all started with a phone call from a friend to say he had met a lady who had a greyhound that they needed to home but she was a bit ill.
When I got to meet Lady I noticed straight away it was parvo. I rushed her straight to Henk Offerines our vet in Kenmare. Henk put heart and soul into saving her. Every day it looked like her last, Henk on a few times said are you sure you want to keep going? But Lady would look at me with her beautiful brown eyes and put her paw on my leg as if to say… give me time.
So when Henk said he could do no more that all she now needs is time and loads of luck. The long haul started. For seventeen weeks I kept her by my side 24/7. At night she would sleep in a sleeping bag beside me (as her diarrhoea was so bad) then I had a mattress in the back of my jeep set up with a drip to keep her hydrated when she needed it so I had her at work all day with me. Her food had to be blended and she had to be tube fed. I was so tied just trying to keep her alive. Then the miracle happened… she stood up. I ran around screaming crying rang Henk roaring down the phone I couldn't believe it. After a few days of starting her to walk again, I walked her into Henks surgery so she could thank him in person for helping to save her life. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. She was a miracle of pure love, I adored her.
Then months past she got so strong she wanted to run and play so in front of me she went tearing through the fields and I remember thinking… oh god slow down then I heard the crack. I knew she had broken her leg. So there we were, rushing to the vet again. Bad news, her leg had to come off but as long as I had her, I didn't care. Poor Lady.
Again we went down the same road of care but this time she bounced back.
Of all the dogs ive saved that tested my limits and my devotion it has to be Lady. But I would do it all over again.
She is so loyal, loving and she makes us all laugh when she runs. Her ears flop up and down like a rabbit and she uses her tail to balance on the bends of the road when she runs. She is a great example of how wonderful a pet a greyhound can make. She will sleep with kittens and keep them warm, share her dinner with the other dogs and just wants a comfy bed to sleep in.
Every time I leave the farm, when I come back she is waiting patiently on the dive to the house and starts barking to the other dogs as if to say…. moms home and she gallops ahead of my jeep.
Lady you are one in a million, I hope we have many more years together. Im so glad I never gave up on you xx

This is baby boo. She was found with her brother crying for help while people just walked by. Thanks to a lovely girl who stopped to help them and rush them to our vets at the Ark. Anita tried so hard to save both of them, but sadly the male died. They were only 3 weeks old, covered in lice while maggots tried to eat them alive. Baby boo is being syringe fed and seems to be doing well so far thanks to Suzanne Dillon. Fingers crossed xx

This is from a FB friend of mine in the Charleville area (Ireland)!!!! Someone just tried to steal my German Shepard, right under my nose. White Transit van with a railing on top. I always take her out to the grass to make her wee but tonight it was raining so I stood back against the wall of the house for shade they pulled up near the estate wall and started calling her one fellow got out and went to jump the wall but I called her and fair play to her she came straight to me. He put his hand over his face when he realized I was there.

Yesterday we had our department of agriculture inspection with John and Eilish.
We had Annie (our secretary for AHAR) Tommy (who is now full time with us) Tina (our volunteer of three years) Molly (our trainee vet) Suzanne Dillion (another long term volunteer of AHAR, who is an ambulance first aider, who trains all our volunteers and she is also a psychotherapist which comes in very handy for dealing with animal hoarders) and Danny Holmes our vet.
Well first it was to meet all the animals. That took a bit of time lol. But the one that really impressed Eilish was Passion. Eilish has seen her weak and so thin, she was delighted to see her so strong and thriving.
Then it was a cup of coffee and we sat down to go through all the paper work for all the animals. It was a really proud moment to show that every dog was microchipped, vaccinated twice, (bar a few new ones) all the ones booked for the UK had their passports ready. Then every horse was the same. We also have an equine number, pig number, flock number, herd number and our kennel licence.
Danny went through our veterinary records in our log books and Annie took notes on everything.
I want to thank Danny Holmes for taking AHAR to the highest standard of rescue excellence over the last 3 months . Danny made it his mission to bring AHAR to the forefront of rescue brilliance as he is chairman of the Companion Animal Society and is really proud to be so involved in animal rescue. Danny thank you for going beyond "just being our vet" we are really proud to have you as part of our team xx

She is to die for, and I picked her up in Kerry pound yesterday.
I just want her owner to know she is safe and booked for a home. She had taken over their house and had started snapping. Well I was licked to death, she stole my dinner and slept under the covers last night sure you couldn't put this princess in a kennel.
I also found an abscess under her ear, this must have been causing her so much pain.
Remember your dog cant talk or tell you they are in pain so if you see a change in their mood there has to be something wrong.
Her owners did take her to a vet but he did not find it. Whats that saying again? A doctor can kill or cure you?
