Sorry for very few updates over the last few days but Cavan pound was full again. So we raised the alarm for help.
Alan from Stokenchurch dog rescue in the UK offered to take ten of our dogs that were ready to find homes. Cindi from Rushton offered to take two and sent us loads of dog food. Thanks Cindi xx
And Gail from Allsorts dog rescue who we work with 24/7 offered to take nineteen. (As we send the photos two weeks in advance, so she has all the home checks done and she had people fighting over our ex pound dogs. How wonderful)
So Gail offered to send her driver and dog transporter.
Gail without you and your team, so many pound dogs would die. As we would not be able to find homes in Ireland for so many. In case we don't tell you often enough. We love the ground you walk on. Your humble attitude but most of all your loyalty.
Your not just a UK rescue, your a friend i'm proud of xx

The Evening Echo Women’s Mini Marathon takes place in Cork on Sunday 15th September at 1.00pm.

This is very much a fun event – participants can run, jog or walk crawl the 4 miles involved. Children are most welcome. And many men take part in fancy dress also!

This is always a very well attended event and participants are usually generously supported for their various causes. And we would love as many of our supporters as possible to take part and raise sponsorship for AHAR.

To register, please go to the following website http://www.eveningecho.ie/minimarathon/# and select AHAR as your chosen cause.

Donna Goldsmith has very kindly offered to co-ordinate all the AHAR participants so once you are registered, please send her your individual registration number and contact details at donna_goldsmith@hotmail.com.

Donna will arrange for sponsorship cards to be sent to you, and she and her friends have also very kindly offered to provide an AHAR t-shirt to all those running on our behalf so hopefully we can get a fantastic group shot on the day.

Please support us if you can – we hope that this will be another great fund-raiser for AHAR to get us closer to the finishing line of purchasing our permanent new premises.

Would you like a stunning portrait (with a retail cost of up to €150) of your own horse, cat or dog? Or perhaps it could be a special gift for a pet owner you know.

That’s what is on offer in our latest prize draw – the lucky winner will get their pet portrait done (in the style of their choice) by Irene Hartnett of Real Appeal Portraits. You don't have to live locally as she can do the portrait from your favourite photos of your pet.

Tickets cost just €10 and you can buy as many as you like – we will be holding the draw this Sunday evening 18th August. To purchase one or more tickets, click the following link – http://on.ahar.ie/hartnett

Check out Irene's fab work on her website http://realappealportraits.com/ including dogs, cats & horses. This is a stunning horse portrait of hers (and no it's not Passion before anybody asks!).

As well as the first prize, we're adding two beautiful framed pet prints worth €100 each as second and third prizes so this is one draw not to miss out on! And remember all the proceeds from this draw will go towards the purchase of our new permanent AHAR premises.

    Bonnie Finds Her Forever Home

Just over a week ago, we posted a plea that we had received for help in re-homing the beautiful red setter pup Bonnie.

Well we are delighted to report that Bonnie has found her forever home in Midleton, Co Cork.

We got this lovely message from Norma, the lady who was looking for a home for Bonnie –

'I'd like to say a huge thank you for putting Bonnie the red setter on your page. Bonnie has found a home, from seeing one of the shares on your page.

Don't know how you do it! The worry involved in re-homing an animal is huge, All has worked out very well though. Thanks a million. Norma'

Best of luck to the beautiful Bonnie and her new family!

    Help Find Max

Max has been missing and is feared stolen from Oulart, Co.Wexford since 20th July. He is 5 years old and is microchipped. He is a family pet and the kids are really missing him.

Please SHARE this post far and wide given the fear that he has been stolen. Any help bringing him home will be much appreciated and there is a reward for his safe return.

His owners have even set up a special website dedicated to the search for Max –

    https://www.facebook.com/pages/Help-find-Max/318080614993899

Here's hoping that Team AHAR can help in re-uniting Max with his devastated family.

We are once again advising you to stay vigilant for the signs of seasonal canine illness (SCI), a mystery illness which in recent years made a number of dogs walked in woodlands suddenly become ill. Please take the time to read the latest information about our investigation into this mystery illness by reading our latest news story here: http://bit.ly/14H36Pb and by sharing the poster below.

For anyone coming new to the site after Sharon Shannon's spot on the Ray D'Arcy show this morning, there’s still time to sign up for the Sponsored Tandem Skydive for AHAR, which is being held in Galway on Saturday 7th September – we will be using the fantastic team from Skydive Ireland for what should prove to be a great day of fear-filled fun and hopefully a major fund-raiser towards AHAR's new premises!

Also on the day there will be great music, food, a bouncy castle & craic for all the supporters! A fab day assured for everyone!

Full details of how to register can be found at http://ahar.ie/skydive/

50+ people are already signed up including a number of celebrities (headed by our amazing patron Sharon Shannon) but there is still plenty of room on the Skydive Ireland planes. So if you are interested in taking the plunge (quite literally in this case!), strapped to an experienced skydiver, register today – the initial registration fee is just €30 but you will have to raise €480 in order to do the skydive.

We would love to get at least 100 people doing the Skydive so hurry up and register if you have been thinking about it and you can start your fund-raising! And many thanks and the very best of luck to all those who are already on board!

If enjoying the thrill of a lifetime by leaping from a plane at 10,000 feet isn't for you, then you can still be involved by sponsoring one of the intrepid 50+ through the following link – https://www.idonate.ie/ahar

A big hug, kiss, lots of licks and an extra special muddy paw print from Dottie Lottie to all those who have contributed to ensure that the ‘Dottie Pottie Stable Syndicate is now complete!

Dottie Pottie’s name and paw print will now be forever commemorated on a stable door at our new permanent AHAR premises which we care currently fund-raising to purchase. Our very special 'special needs' dog who survived having a pint of fluid drained from his brain as a tiny pup is beside himself with joy (as are we all at AHAR) and Dottie is throwing himself into every available puddle to celebrate!

Our new Rescue Centre is a former Equestrian Centre with 30 acres of land including a Stable Block, arena and outbuildings. As part of our fund-raising, we have made the 28 existing stables available for sponsorship. (Life-time sponsorship with a plaque on the door for a once-off donation of €1,000).

26 of the stables have been sponsored and just 2 are now still available – if you are interested in sponsoring one outright, you can do so through the following link – http://on.ahar.ie/stable

But for now Dottie Pottie has asked us to thank us all those who donated for a ‘share’ in his Syndicate (with apologies in advance for any mis-spellings!) – Catherine O’Leary, Siobhan Brosnan, Sarah Power, Gayle O’Riordan, Mary and Pa Knowles, Vonnie Pearce, Tanya Rodgers, Katie Maher, Fuschia Hair, Mary Morissey, Molly and Jane, Audrey Kelleher, Edel Hickey, Tokiko Masuda, Sandra Howlin, Els Cameron, Kate Brown, Ramona Morris, May Crawford, Katie Boyle, Patricia Hughes, Beth Hewson, Kat Allison, Geraldine Walsh, Mary Scanlon, Jenny Perrin, Mary Kelly, Louisa Fox, Katrina Booth, Jana Poller, Marie O’Connor, Jean Norton, Grainne Kilcoyne, Barbara Cotter, Caroline Crowther, Charlotte Flood, Srah Cullinan, May Doyle, Maeve McSwiney, Carolyn Smyth, Hannah O’Leary and Lou O’Leary.
