She was used in a puppy farm for years and suffered so much abuse at the hands of the breeder.
Then a lovely older lady managed to get her out of there. She called her Lassie and kept her safe till now many years later. Lassie is now 9 yrs old. This is the worst bit. Her owner became very ill and is now in hospital and wont be able to care for Lassie anymore. She is heart broken and has begged us to find her a safe home where she will be loved. Lassie loves cats, children and all animals. She is very calm and well mannered. Please can anyone help this very upset girl find a place to rest her paws for the next few years. Can anyone help? I don't want her in the kennels if I can help it. or even if you can foster?

We have all heard the song 'Past the point of rescue' made famous by Hal Ketchum in the USA where it went to number one. Or 'My love is in America' a hit for Mary Black. And of course most of us have heard of the writer of these and many more hits, the Legend Mick Hanly. Mick is doing a Charity gig for Animal Heaven Animal Rescue on Friday August 16th at 9pm. This is at O'Riadas Bar which is half way between Castleisland and Tralee. Every cent made on the night goes to AHAR to help save the lives of so many Animals. Mick was once described by Garth Brooke's as one of the greatest songwriters of his time. "Awesome singer and songwriter", real words acclaimed by Garth Brooke's……try and catch him……. Well, the great news is that you can catch him, appreciate his talent and help save a lot of Animals. Tickets from O'Riadas or phone 0667137761. Please share this post and looking forward to seeing you there. Thanks and take care. Ted.

We are now exactly 5 months into our Fundraising campaign, launched on 1st March 2013, as we look to raise €100,000 to secure a mortgage on a new Rescue Centre – as you may know we have placed a deposit of €20,000 on the property, a former equestrian centre, with 30 acres of land and several outbuildings including a large arena with 28 stables, which is situated just 3km outside of Castleisland in Co Kerry. Photos of the property are shown here http://animoto.com/play/0swGOFiq1e9nRm9IVrY6Zg
We are delighted to announce tonight that our Purchase Fund now stands at an incredible €79,043 !!!
This figure includes the €4,033 in sponsorship which the amazing Sharon Shannon has already collected at various gigs towards her tandem skydive (of which more later) and banked for AHAR.
A huge thank you to all those who have raised money or donated thus far – your generosity and support never ceases to amaze us.
We have two months remaining to raise the balance and with your continued help, we will do this. The new AHAR Rescue Centre will give us so much more space and will reduce our running costs, we will be able to keep more of the horses in our care on site, our transport costs will be reduced and we will be able to run education courses, dog training courses, show-jumping events etc – all of which will help to finance AHAR into the future.
Three on-going fund-raisers at the moment are:
The Friends of AHAR Patrons Scheme (donation of €100 or more) – you can join by going to http://on.ahar.ie/patron
The Sponsor a Stable Scheme (life-time sponsorship for once-off donation of €1,000). Only 3 of the 28 stables remain available for Sponsorship and this can be done at http://on.ahar.ie/stable
We also of course have the sponsored Tandem Skydive coming up in Galway on Saturday 7th September – it’s still not too late if you want to jump – so register today at http://ahar.ie/skydive/
Or if you would like to donate towards one of those who have already volunteered to take part, you can do so here – https://www.idonate.ie/988_ahar-ireland.html (click on the Our Fundraisers link to see the list of Jumpers!)
Finally, if you would just like to make a donation, however big or small, towards our capital appeal, to help AHAR get a forever home as we strive to get forever homes for thousands of dogs, horses and other animals each year, then you can do so via this link – http://on.ahar.ie/capitalappeal
You can help to secure this new AHAR Rescue Centre; you can help to create a positive environment for animal welfare in Ireland for many years to come, you are the most important part of Team AHAR – we can’t do this without YOU!
- Harvey the collie and his Mum looking for a home
We received this lovely mess…Harvey the collie and his Mum looking for a home
We received this lovely message from Ruth in Sligo – normally we wouldn’t post a dog looking for a home so far away from us in Kerry, especially as we have so many of our own here in AHAR to re-home, but Ruth has had no success locally and is willing to travel to get the gorgeous Harvey and his collie mum a home – contact her directly on 086 8138919 if interested.
So this is the message in the words of Harvey the collie!!
"Hi everyone, my name is Harvey. My mum and I are looking for a new home as our human mum hasn’t been too well and isn’t able to mind us anymore. I’m 18 months old, and mum being mum won’t tell me her age but I guess about 6 or 7! I’m a real ruff and tumble kinda pup, love to wag my tail and play. Mum is a lot shyer than I am, a bit more nervous than your average dog but still wants to be loved.
We don’t need a home together as poor Mum can get a bit stressed when I want to play (and I do love to play!!). My ideal home would be somewhere with lots of space to run and some kids for me to play with (But not too little because I can forget how big I am – silly me!!!) Mum would like somewhere quieter, where she can just potter about and be someone’s friend.
If either of us are welcome in your home, please contact Ruth on 086-8138919, she’s in charge of helping us find a new home!"

We launched our capital appeal on 1st March this year for the purchase of our new premises, having found a perfect property: it is a former equestrian centre with 28 indoor stables, an indoor arena, a number of out-buildings and 30 acres of land. It is near Castleisland in the heart of Kerry. You can see pictures of it here – http://animoto.com/play/0swGOFiq1e9nRm9IVrY6Zg
In May we were able to put down a €20,000 deposit on the property, which will cost €400,000 in total.
See how far along the road we are to reaching our €100,000 target for securing a mortgage later today – exactly 5 months since we started our appeal.

When you first see this photo. You think… so? Two horses looking out a stable door. But it's not just two horses. One is Passion, our little war horse who was 210kg when we got her.
A horse many many people, vets and even rescues would have put to sleep. Why? Afraid of the unknown. Has a horse in this state been saved before? To even ask that question you had no business even trying to save a horse like her. Or giving any comment on her life to live or die.
We were informed yesterday. That a few Irish rescues had made complaints on how cruel it was to hold her from the roof. This to me is proving how little you know. I have done this at least one hundred times. A few days, a few weeks even a few months depending on the state of each horse.
I have only ever lost one in my care who was too far gone.
But all the rest were a huge success.
Now looking at this photo, I think I know how foolish you must feel.
I hope in future you will hold your tongue, your pen or keyboard before you pass comment and leave these rescues to the people who know what they are doing.
My heart does break for any horse like Passion whos comes in your path as they will be put to sleep.
I know Passion has touched the lives of so many people, pity you have never felt her loving stare or just her breath on your face. Maybe then you would fight to save them.

Maurice Enright came with me on Tuesday to help transport the Cavan pound dogs. When he met Toby (awful name for a female rough collie) his heart broke. She was hiding in the corner, shaking and too afraid to trust. She was in a really bad state. He could not believe someone could do this then dump her in the pound on death row. So… he offered to foster her. Check out the next photo.

This is your opportunity to win a round of golf for four people at the wonderful Adare Manor golf course, plus 4 full Irish breakfasts in the Carriage House there. It's a fantastic place to play a round of golf, having staged the Irish Open in the past, and the prize is valid for a year. The prize is worth at least €140.
Tickets for the draw are €10 each and you can buy as many as you want. Simply log on to http://on.ahar.ie/golf to secure your place in the draw.
Al proceeds go to our capital appeal for the purchase of our new premises. The draw will be made next Monday (5th August) evening or when we get 20 entries if that comes earlier.
And, if you're not into golf yourself, please share this with any of your friends who might be interested in this great prize.

REPOST. URGENT! Can anyone please help me? My lovely auntie Marie passed away in her sleep last night. She never had any kids but has left behind her 11 yr old female dog Holly. Now the ex husband and the part of the family can have made the decision to put Holly to sleep because they reckon she is to ill and will fret to much without Marie and its also what my aunt would have wanted, which I know isn't true. I'm so upset and totally disgusted. I can take her for a couple of weeks but I have 2 older dogs as well one of which is extremely jealous will not allow another dog near the house and it would end up badly. She is medium sized house dog extremely good with children but I feel she will need a quiet house now to get back to her happy self. Can anyone please help me Please If anyone can please pm me asap. This could happen as early as tomorrow afternoon or Thursday. Don't let this happen, PLEASE CONTACT https://www.facebook.com/lisa.a.skidmore

Today started at 7am. There was dogs to be dropped at the vets to be neutered, a shopping list of wormers, vaccines and flea treatment for all the Cavan dogs. Then all the volunteers started to arrive. I couldn't believe my luck. We had so much help. Then in the middle of it we had our Department of Agriculture yearly inspection. So Kathy and Joy took over the reins of the madness of AHAR lol. Our inspectors got a tour of the farm and met all the animals large and small. Of course Honky shamed us. Oh that pig is always causing trouble. Everything went fantastic. AHAR was a hive of activity. We had so much unbelievable help today. What a pleasurable day. I wish every day was as successful.
And the best news ever… Aisling, Beckie and Julie loved it so much, they are coming back tomorrow. Also Suzanne Dillon is staying for two days. What a life the animals are having. Three walks a day and plenty treats. What more could any animal want xx
