As you know, today Kerry pound was empty thanks to the dog wardens. One got a great home and they found the owner of the other.
So we were all so excited. But…. there's always a but. In animal rescue.
This guy walks in at 4.25 (remember they close at 5pm) and says " I want to surrender two dogs to be put to sleep" So the wardens asks "Why?"
He says "one killed my chicken and the other wont stop barking"
Well!!! One of my amazing dog wardens says "that's fine, we'll sort them"
He did. He rang me and said "How fast can you drive?"
It normally takes me 40mins with traffic. Well I swear, I broke every speed limit, every red light. I drove that jeep like it had wings.
I got there at 5.05. Brendan and Mairead our Kerry dog wardens waited with a dog in each hand. I'm so dam proud to work with you and even prouder to call you friends. Not only are you after changing the future in Kerry pound but if only you knew how many counties would love wardens like you. It would have been so easy just to put them to sleep, instead you waited and were proud to save them.
I want as many people as possible to like this post. Just maybe, a warden out their will read it. And the future of pounds will start changing. Mairead and Brendan we salute you from the bottom of our hearts xx

One week, they told me she waited by this gate where you dumped her. Your dog who trusted you. She thought you just forgot her and you would be back. No food, no water or shelter…. but she waited for you.
Thanks to Peter from Currow who rang me straight away when he was told about her little face waiting at the gate. How she ran up to every car that stopped to turn. She thought you were coming back.
It took us hours tonight to catch her. I know you kicked her. She wets the floor if you touch her or try to pick her up. She shakes from head to toe when you rub her. She's only about 6mnts old.
She was starving and cried when we fed her. So happy to see food.
She has more qualities as a dog than you will ever have as a human.
She now has a bright future to look forward to. You….. have nothing but the shallow person you are.

We are thrilled to announce that Sile Seoige is the latest celebrity who is mad (sorry brave) enough to join the tandem Skydive for AHAR in Galway on Saturday, 7th September. Our caption writer has been sacked as we should have saved the earlier 'Jump with the Galway Girl' headline for her as she is of course a proud native of beautiful Galway – and so she will be getting a birds eye view of her home county!
And here is what Sile herself has to say about it:

"As a self confessed wimp and someone who's terrified of heights I know that this is going to be a major personal challenge for me. I can still barely believe I've said yes to doing it if I'm honest!! But I'm really proud to be one of the crazy bunch of animal loving jumpers hoping to raise plenty of cash for a massively worthy cause. And that's where you come in; please give whatever you can to support me and in turn boost the amazing work of AHAR Ireland. Go raibh míle maith agaibh!"

If you would like to sponsor Sile, here is the link http://on.ahar.ie/idonatesile

And if YOU too would like to do a tandem skydive with Sile (not literally of course – you would be attached to separate highly experienced skydivers!!) to raise vitally needed money for AHAR, then here is the link with all the details of how to register and how much you will need to raise http://ahar.ie/skydive

Just 24 hours to go now until we make the draw for the two pairs of tickets for the pre-season friendly between Liverpool and Celtic in the Aviva Stadium Dublin on Saturday 10th August. The match completely sold out in an hour and tickets are now going for a lot more than their face value of €55.

We are running a draw with three great prizes –

1st Prize: Two Premium Tickets for the match value €110
2nd Prize: Two Premium Tickets for the match value €110
3rd Prize: Republic of Ireland signed football jersey

Tickets for the draw are €10 each, simply log on to
http://on.ahar.ie/football to secure your place in the draw which will be made tomorrow evening, Saturday 27th July with the results posted on our Facebook page. You can buy more than one ticket if you want to increase your chances of scoring the ultimate goal of winning the two tickets!

We have 35 entrants so far so with two pairs of tickets and a football shirt to give away, the chances are still decent!

All proceeds from this draw will go towards the purchase of our new AHAR Rescue Centre.

And, if you're not into football yourself, please share this with any of your friends who might be interested as there's now just a day until the draw!

Thank you to everyone who made a donation through http://ahar.ie/donate/ or has sent their kind wishes to Windy.

Your help has been quite literally life saving for her. You don’t know what it’s like to be able to say to your vet "spare nothing, give her the best of everything". It’s the best feeling in the world. We would normally be dreading the cost of her treatment on top of our always ever rising vets bill, but its times like this with your help we just want to scream from our hearts with excitement for Windy.

She lived it up at the vets and all the staff fell in love with her. But who wouldn't, she is so kind and trying so hard to be a good mum when she is so weak and really still only a baby herself. As each pup died in her paws, she tried to lick them back to life. So heart breaking to watch the six lost souls and her expression of bewilderment.

But on a good note, today she’s looking so much better again, with a shine in her eye and eating a bit more, only leaving her three surviving pups when she has to. The pups still aren't out of the danger zone yet but with Windy gaining strength, they are too.

I can’t wait until she can be spayed and find her the perfect home where she will be loved and never look back on what humans did to her. Just give her unconditional love to the human who spoils her for life.

To all our friends of AHAR who help us 24/7, I’m your biggest fan.

    Love Suzanne xx

    JUMP WITH THE GALWAY GIRL!

There’s still time if you haven’t already signed up to take part in our big tandem skydiving fund-raiser, which is being held with Skydive Ireland on 7th September in Galway.

This great idea was the initiative of our wonderful patron Sharon Shannon (hence the Galway Girl reference!) and a host of other celebrities have joined the cause already. The full list of 24 people already registered for the jump and signed up with idonate is here (for those wishing to support someone taking part) http://www.idonate.ie/988_ahar-ireland.html

But we would love to get more of you doing the actual jump – the target we set ourselves was for 50 to jump and we are halfway there already, which is brilliant.

While we want as many as possible there on 7th September, if that day doesn't suit, you can still participate and do a tandem parachute jump for AHAR on another date which does work for you – just register the same way and then get in touch with the Skydive Ireland team about suitable dates.

Another concern expressed by a few people is about raising the money in time – the initial €30 deposit is non-refundable, but that is really your only potential exposure – the bottom line is that you need to raise €240 to pay to Skydive Ireland by 1st September, and then come with a cheque/postal order/bankers draft made payable to Animal Heaven Animal Rescue on the day for the balance of at least €240 (and hopefully much more!).

If you are struggling to achieve that figure within the time frame, you won't be able to jump on 7th September but you can keep fund-raising until you do have enough (i.e. the minimum total required figure of €480) to do the jump.

So, if you are hovering on the brink and unsure whether to take the leap, go for it (it's only 10,000 feet!!).

This is a vital fund-raiser for AHAR to help us raise the money required to purchase our new permanent premises (we need a forever home as much as the huge numbers of animals we rescue!), and it will be a wonderful opportunity to have a thrilling and fun-packed day along with like-minded, animal-loving celebs and other AHAR supporters.

All the relevant info on how to register can be found at http://ahar.ie/skydive/

As a famous brand would say – JUST DO IT!!

This is the gorgeous Duke who is looking for a home

He’s not with AHAR but is being looked after by a lovely lady called Ruth in Tralee after his previous owners sadly had to give him up when re-locating (please don’t comment on this as they are upset enough as it is and the circumstances were outside their control).

Ruth very kindly took him in on an emergency basis but isn’t able to keep him – she reports that Duke is quiet, affectionate (will shower you with kisses!!), good with other dogs and children, loves to play, especially with a tennis ball, and will make a wonderful family pet.

That’s all the information we have so if you are interested in offering Duke a forever home, please call Ruth on 085 7548710.

We will update you if Duke gets a home. Fingers crossed.

UPDATE – Duke is going on trial with a lovely lady and her family next week and that will hopefully become her forever home.
