32 – that is how many more 'Friends of AHAR' Patrons we need by the end of July in order to claim the €2,500 which has been offered by a very generous donor if we can reach 250 Patrons by the end of the month.
We have already signed up 7 Patrons in the 3 days since we launched 'The 39 Steps' Challenge which is a great start but we need to keep the momentum up so please share this appeal wide and far and try to raise the funds if you can – perhaps with a group of friends, family or work colleagues.
You can become a Friends of AHAR Patron by making a donation of €100 or more via the following link http://on.ahar.ie/patron – or send a cheque/postal order (made out to AHAR) to Georgia Murray, AHAR Treasurer, Knockatagglemore, Kilcummin, Killarney, Co Kerry. If you wish, you may record your Patronage in memory of a relative or pet. All donations go towards the purchase of our new permanent premises for the AHAR Welfare Centre.
Thank you so much for all your support!!!

My time as a volunteer
Thank u for having me last week as a volunteer, i enjoyed every minute and i am struggling to settle back home as i'm still looking around me for dogs and of course Dotti Potti (my profile pic)
I have never worked in rescue before but as long as i can remember have been very passionate about animals.
I had my fears i must be honest as i didn't know what to expect. I was greeted warmly by Suzanne (even though she didnt expect me) and of course all the dogs and right away i knew everything would be fine.
I learned as i went along, feeding, cleaning, walking and grooming and to be honest while i was there it was a though the world stood still, i never wore a watch, i didn't need one
If its in your heart to help animals then i urge anyone thinking about it to just go and do it, you won't be sorry
Your heart is your most powerful tool, look after it and follow it, there are lots of paws depending on it

Just a quick reminder that Laura O Donoghue and Emer Brosnan will be at the farmers market in Corofin, Co Clare tomorrow (Friday) and all the profits from their Yummy Cakes stall will go to AHAR – so please drop by and indulge in one of their creations if you are in the area! Thank you so much ladies!!

Georgia here, just received a message from Willa one of our ex pound dogs from Kerry that was a bait dog.
Phwissht!!! AHAR. A quick message from me – (just grabbed the computer for a few minutes..) its me – Willa…the ex bait dog.Yeah the one you so carelessly and callously sent to Dublin as a so called "Rescue!" Thanks a bunch.
Well as you can see, it's not working out well. These people are mad! Not only do I have to share MY couch with visiting Sons of the family…but SHE makes me lie down on a sissy pink and white baby blanket! There is NO dignity.
I have to chase balls all over the feckin' park, walk "Nicely" on the lead (whatever THAT means) NOT allowed chase the family cats! WTF?? I am a DAWG!!!
There is NO end to the cruelty you have doomed me to. I even have to see a doggy shrink (at least SHE says – it's either me seeing a doggie shrink or SHE sees a hooman shrink) So I guess I just have to lose that one. I''m booked in for MY "Issues" SHE gets offf scot free. Yeah -righ'
Don't know why….but I have recently been renamed "Houdini the Hound"…mmmm???? four escapes in four weeks is not overdoing it? is it? …I mean – given the treatment I have to endure here? Wish I had one of dem SATNAVs I could find my way back to you all at AHAR!…Love Willa.

Another Big Thank You to someone who earlier Sponsored a Stable as a donation towards the AHAR Welfare Centre appeal – and this time all the way from Germany!
The Stable was sponsored by Astrid Behrendt in memory of ‘Lady Godiva’, a wonderful cat “and a lady indeed" – they are pictured here in this stunning photo.
Lady Godiva lived at an animal sanctuary in Namibia which Astrid visited in 1997 and having sheltered with Astrid when hiding from some big baboons which had escaped, they went on to live a long and adventurous life together. Lady Godiva is dearly missed by Astrid and the whole Behrendt family and her memory will now forever be recalled on a stable door plaque at the new AHAR Rescue Centre.
It is great that AHAR’s reputation extends beyond our shores and that we have so many international supporters. Hopefully, others will follow in the Behrendt family’s footsteps and consider either sponsoring stable (for a minimum donation of €1,000 – the link is http://on.ahar.ie/stable) or becoming a Friends of AHAR Patron (for a minimum donation of €100 – http://on.ahar.ie/patron).
We are delighted that Astrid will be coming to visit AHAR in August, especially as she works with wildlife (she will fit in perfectly at AHAR!!) and is also a great Irish lover, being part of the team that organises "Irish Days" in her home town of Leverkusen in Germany, involving Irish dance and music. We may have to hide your passport and steal you for AHAR Astrid!
