Monday 1st July will be 4 months on from the launch of our Capital Appeal to purchase permanent premises for AHAR – we started on March 1st and, after 3 months, by June 1st we had reached €50,710, half way to our €100,000 target.
So at around 9.00pm on Monday we will update everyone on how much further down the road we have traveled on the journey to the new AHAR!
Just need to find a calculator now!

Handsome Honky is a very happy pig tonight, as this picture with AHAR volunteer Catherine shows, because she has got her big nose (well snout actually) in front of Suzanne & Bob in what Honky thinks is the race to become AHAR's next top model!!
In fact, it's a contest to see who is most popular and can get sponsors for all 50 'shares' in their Stable Syndicate first.
The up-to-date scoreboard is:
The Honky Stable Syndicate has 37 shares gone – 13 shares are therefore left available if you want to see Honky triumph (at €20 each meaning a total of €260 still to be raised). Honky has of course been a resident of AHAR since virtually the day she was born when she was rescued as the runt of a large litter of piglets who was given no chance of survival.
Up against Honky is The Suzanne & Bob Stable Syndicate, honouring AHAR founder Suzanne Gibbons's relationship with her greatest equine love Bob, an apparently unrideable, unmanageable horse whom she bonded with to become champion showjumpers together and whose untimely death from colic last year left a hole the size of Kerry in Suzanne's heart. 36 of the 50 shares are gone in the Suzanne & Bob Syndicate leaving 14 available (so €280 to be raised in total)

As many of you are aware, we are currently fund-raising to buy a permanent future home for AHAR. Our new Rescue Centre is a former Equestrian Centre with 30 acres of land including a Stable Block, arena and outbuildings. As part of our fund-raising drive we have made the 28 stables available for sponsorship (life-time sponsorship with a plaque on the door for a once-off donation of €1,000).
- A Big Thank You from Rocky The Pug!
Rocky The Pug just got in touch with us to…A Big Thank You from Rocky The Pug!
Rocky The Pug just got in touch with us to say that he wants to give you all lots of licks for Sponsoring a Stable on his behalf at the new AHAR premises – he is now a very proud Pug indeed!
His story will serve as testimony to the courage of a young teenage lad in taking decisive action to rescue him from a near death situation, to Rocky's own bravery and spirit in overcoming a series of operations, to the determination of Suzanne and the AHAR team to give every animal a chance of survival and of course to AHAR's supporters without whose donations AHAR would not be able to save Rocky and many hundreds (indeed thousands) of others like him.
As promised – the full (and very international – with several Australian contributors and one from Hollywood USA) list of Rocky The Pug syndicate members is: May Crawford, Siobhan Brosnan, Teresa Winter, Dympna Carroll, Mrs TC Rodgers, Mary Flanagan, Mandy La Combe, Jutta Benker, Lesley Kane, Chambre d'hote, Austin Slowey, Ramona Morris, Mary Knowles, Windsor Baulch, Rose Baulch, Philip Pritchard, Janet Creaton, Marjorie Morris, Aileen Lennon, Tokiko Masuda, Gail Blake, Alison Baker, Sylvia Miller, Margaret Dogett, Pure Neem UK, Rachael Whittle, Jennifer Quirke, Carole Rees, Leigh Broomfield
We still have two other 'Sponsor A Stable' Syndicates which you can join, and remember that all the proceeds will go directly towards the capital fund for the purchase of the new permanent premises for AHAR – allowing us to save even more animals and make an even bigger difference to animal welfare in Ireland.
The two 'Sponsor A Stable Syndicates' are for:
Honky The Pig, pictured here with Liitle Liam (who Honky minds as though one of her own!) who was rescued as a tiny piglet by Suzanne when, as the runt of a litter when she was destined for certain death and who seven year later remains a permanent, very happy and occasionally bossy resident at AHAR.

Suzanne Gibbons and Bob – the equine face of AHAR for many years, the horse who was supposedly unrideable but who instantly bonded with Suzanne to become a champion showjumper, and whose death of colic 18 months ago left a huge hole in Suzanne's heart, which is only now starting to be filled by the amazing exploits of Princess Passion

31 of the 50 Suzanne & Bob 'shares' are gone so far
So, who is going to be next to the finishing line of 50 'shares' first – Suzanne & Bob (19 to go), or Honky the Pig (23 to go)!? Your donations will decide!!

We are always delighted when one of our supporters decides to hold a fund-raiser on AHAR's behalf and a huge thanks to Annette Roche who will be doing just that by holding a 'Hoofs & Paws, Mane & Tail Day' in her Indulge Beauty and Ballybeg Hair Salon in Ballybeggan, Tralee on Friday 12th July.
All proceeds on the day will go to AHAR – no appointment is necessary but you can call/text 083 4129386 to secure a booking in advance (the Salon will be open from 10.00am to 5.00pm on Friday 12th).
Available treatments will be wash & blow dry €10, nail paints €5, nail file & paint €7, 2-week manicure €15. Refreshments and treats will be available to visitors!
They will also be holding a raffle – €3 a line (5 tickets) or €5 for 2 lines – tickets can be purchased at the Indulge Beauty and Ballybeg Hair Salon with some great prizes on offer, including lunch for 2 at the garden cafe at the amazing 5* Dunloe Castle, a fabulous Ogra skincare hamper and a hot stone massage followed by a wash & blow dry!!!
So please go along and support this great initiative or, if you would like to run a fund-raising event of your own for the AHAR Capital Appeal, please send us a private message.

Thanks to your great support, and a very generous donation from Gail Blake who is a wonderful supporter of AHAR, there are now only 7 'shares' left available at €20 each in the ‘Rocky The Pug Stable Syndicate’ – just log on to http://on.ahar.ie/rockysyn to be part it. You can take one "share" or multiple “shares”, it’s entirely up to you. We will list all donors when the Syndicate is full.
The picture is just a reminder of what a sorry state Rocky the Pug was in when he first came into AHAR, having been rescued by an incredibly brave 14-year-old boy from a terrible situation as he saw Rocky being left in a state of awful neglect after suffering horrific injurie. His jaw was broken, his teeth were hanging out, one eye was terribly infected (subsequently had to be removed) and he had countless other injuries.
The poor Pug was quickly nicknamed Rocky by out fabulous AHAR followers because of his fighting spirit. Thanks to donations from AHAR's wonderful supporters and with the help of Pug Rescue, he was given the best veterinary care in Ireland. Rocky came through several operations and underwent major reconstructive surgery on his jaw. As befits his name, Rocky bounced back incredibly quickly and he is now a very happy one-eyed Pug living in a wonderful forever home, being spoiled rotten.
So we now just need another €140 (7 'shares' at €20 each) to have a Stable commemorated in Rocky's honour at the new AHAR premises – to recognise his bravery and that of the teenager who refused to ignore his plight & suffering.
