Hello everyone, Sharon Shannon here. We're all mega, mega excited with this fantastic news tonight and thank you all so much for your very kind well-wishes. The reason this transporter is here now is thanks to all of you so much for your amazing donations at the time when little Bonnie and Clyde were first rescued……. and……. because you all contributed so generously, the idea for this transporter became a REALITY. We hope that you are just as proud as we are of this, because you are all VERY much part of this fantastic progress…. and because of this vehicle, transport will be so much easier and more affordable, so….. of course, in turn, this means we have more money to save more. I hope you all know that your donations large or small (especially the regular ones) help so enormously to save an incredible amount of animals. Thank you all again and lots of love, from all at AHAR. (hairy, baldy, furry, fluffy, feathery, 2-legged, 3-legged and 4! 🙂 :))

Out of the darkness and into the light.

Tom again, one of the worst cases of cruelty we have come across occurred back in January of this year when a cat and a dog were rescued in Ardfert, both were suffering from horrific burns inflicted when boiling water was throw over them. Thankfully Bonnie and Clyde as we christened them pulled through and are now both in great condition and living with Ruth and Andrew Collings who originally fostered them and subsequently gave them their forever home. (Clyde will be joining us on the Sponsored Walk next Sunday.)

On the back of this rescue a groundswell of support grew, culminating in a challenge laid down by Gary Monroe of Monroe’s in Galway who offered to donate €2,000 to AHAR provided it was matched by donations from the public. During this period, including Gary’s contribution, we raised a phenomenal €6,400 which was set aside to purchase our own dog transporter. Since then we have been searching for the ideal van (at the right price) and after many months of searching our great friend and supporter Jason Morris located such a van for us in the UK, it has now arrived in the country and we will pick it up next Tuesday.

The van has been booked in for its VRT check on May 3rd (and this will be followed by a DOE check) while we must also kit it out internally with crates for the safe transportation of the dogs. We will also be putting AHAR signage on the van including a picture of Bonnie and Clyde as this van was inspired by the overwhelming response to their suffering. There is a cost to this so if you know anyone out there who is in this line of work and could help us with customising the inside of the van or helping us with the signage please let us know by pm or email tom@ahar.ie

Having our own transporter will save us a lot of money in transport costs and will enable us to save more dogs, a huge thanks to Jason for tracking it down and our sincere thanks to Gary Monroe and everyone who supported the call, without you this would not have happened. Thank you.

So where are we going for the spin? I said, I’ve loads to do. Need to collect something, says he. Oh my god!! If he was beside me I’d choke him lol. Collecting what? I said……………

    Our dog transporter!

Well! I dropped the camera, stabbed my hand with the dog brush, let the dog go and started screaming! Thank god the farm is in the middle of nowhere cos if anyone was watching me you would swear I was stung by a bee lol. I blew his ears off, ran around shouting at Seamus and Danny, poor lads I really don’t think they understood a word that came out of my mouth. Tom and Jason had kept this a secret for the last few weeks. They wanted it to be a surprise. Well it was!!! We were looking for one for ages but they kept saying they couldn’t find the right one. I was really upset after we found one and they told me it was sold. Little did I know…. it was sold, sold to AHAR! Jason and Tom decided to have their fun and wind me up. Just you wait till I catch ye…. I’m so excited!!! Our own transporter!!!

I’m dreaming of driving to Cavan pound and taking the dogs home in style!!! I’m dreaming of my first trip to the UK to my UK rescues knowing I’m with the dogs all the way until they are safe in their fancy rescue centres. Oh God I’m going to burst with excitement!! There will now be plenty more bedtime stories for our friends of AHAR XX

Tom will be posting photographs of the van shortly so hang on in there.

Suzanne here, well today I was busy doing my usual work, and Tom rang and asked if I had five minutes to talk. I said yes but only five as I’m in the middle of taking photos of the dogs and pulling my hair out as they would rather look at the birds or roll over than look at the camera. So he said take a break and listen, I’ve a surprise for you. So I said oh God?? Is it alive? No, he said, it’s not alive.

So I stopped and stood still and laughed! He had my attention now. What could it be? He then asked what was I was doing Tuesday, I was like… Tom are you gone mad or what???
Sure I'll be here working….like I always am. So he then said, will you be able to get help at the farm for a few hours I need you to come for a spin, it might be worth your while. Well I swear if he was beside me I’d have chased him with the brush!!! All he was doing was getting a laugh out of winding me up!!!

By now I was fit to kill him!! I had a camera hanging from my mouth, a dog brush and a dog on a lead in one hand and the phone in the other!! So anything to shut him up I said yes.

I want so much to tell you the rest of the story but Tom won't let me until 8 o'clock!!

Want to say thank you to Jackie Eke for donating a kennel to us that was made in the Manshed in Killarney and also sending us €10 euros towards food for the dogs. The plaque will be put on the kennel tomorrow – hopefully – and I will take a picture and put up here. The plaque arrived yesterday.
