Hello all of you loyal supporters, Suzanne here. In the last few weeks, since we launched our major fundraiser, (to purchase a premises to keep AHAR safe for future generations) I really haven't had even 5 minutes to sit down and write to you all….eventho I have really wanted to, and have been thinking of you all. As the animals in need are coming in by the dozen EVERY single day….by the time we finish working at night I have been so exhausted, I just could not even think where to start writing such an important post. Tonight, thanks to all the amazing help we had here at AHAR over the weekend I DO have the time and energy to finally put pen to paper, but before I tell you how I feel, I really want to share with you this essay I wrote in school when I was in 4th class. (I would have been 9 or 10 years old)
As a kid, I loved writing and art at school, so I kept all my essays, copy books and drawings.

One day, the teacher asked us to write an essay on our favourite thing to do on our day off from school.

Of course, I had to correct some (not all) grammar and spellings to make it legible to you all (lol). Anyway, I hope you like it, here it is:

"Today is my favourite day of the week. It's Saturday. My Mom will walk me down to the animals home and I will get to help them all day. I really love it there but sometimes it can be sad. I love meeting all the dogs and cats who have no friends and nobody wants. But I want them and I will find them homes. Mom would kill me but I want to take them all. I even have names for them all. Why are people are so mean to the poor things? All they want is a bit of food and love.

The first thing we did was feed them all. Then we cleaned them and I was allowed take some of them for a walk. They get so excited and jump around. They are so happy to be out of their cages. I hate putting them back. Its so unfair. I feel so guilty. They look at me like they are crying.

I help a lovely man called Alan. He answers the phone and he will punish you if you are mean to the animals. He's like my hero. I want to be like him when I grow up.

Today a dog called George came in. Hes a lovely collie. He gives the paw and sits when you ask him. His owner looked very sad saying goodbye but George cried all day. He just sat in the corner and didnt eat his food. I tried to tell him he would find a new home but I knew his heart was broken. He wanted to go to his real home.

There are so many like George here. They are all so sad. They cry alot and try to look out the holes in the wall because they cant see out. Sometimes they fight because they all want to look out so I go in and play with them.

We had a cake sale in school yesterday and I took all the cakes people did not buy and today the animals all got a piece of cake it made them really happy. I wish I could work here all the time. Then they would always be happy.

While I was there, Alan got a call that someone threw a dog in the river Lee. I was not allowed to go but when Alan came back he told me the story. A man called Joe saw a guy throw a dog in the river. It made the Irish Examiner. He climbed down the ladder and got the poor dog. I wanted to meet him and the dog but he took them home.

Then it was 5.30 pm and my Mom was outside to collect me."

Back to 2013…………Now, I'm so happy that all of you have become part of my dream. It's almost impossible to put into words to describe the enormity of the gratitude I feel towards you all for your support in this lifelong ambition.
As some of you already know, AHAR is a 100% volunteer run organisation which was founded by myself in 1991. We rescue thousands of animals every year, including dogs from various pounds all over the country every week. Up to now, AHAR has been in rented premises, but for us to be able to move to the level we are aiming at, we need to purchase a place that will be OWNED by AHAR in order to secure the future of AHAR….forever…not just our own lifetime. We have a strong forward-thinking committee in place, and we are very excited to say we have identified a very suitable property and have agreed a price with the owner. Thanks to the amazing generosity of you all, this lifetime dream is beginning to come true. Since we started walking it together step by step it's coming closer and closer. Once the deposit is paid, the excitement will start erupting like a volcano! There will be fireworks in my soul. I'm so glad I can share this with all of you. I'm blessed to have you as friends…. of AHAR xxxx.
PS. I have dyslexia and I've been trying so hard to overcome it all my life. It used to upset and frustrate me very much when I was a child but I have learned how to deal with it now and I do my best to make all my posts as legible to you all as possible. (when I have time lol. Sometimes I don't have time to correct myistakes! Lol)
It took a lot of persuasion by Sharon to get me to post up the photograph of the essay. Please go easy on me! (Lol)

There is a Gaelic Irish saying "Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí" which translates as "Praise the young and they will flourish" – well here is some praise for young Belle Morris who has raised an incredible €150 to become a Friends of AHAR Patron (following her older sisters Tilly and Maddie). Thank you Belle, you have a great heart, Tom

    Update on Lucky from Jenny.
I let Saoirse have a little sit on Princess Lucky today while we were grooming her and she loved it! Lucky was a star and didn't move a muscle, I think she even had forty winks at one point. Going to let her put on some more condition before the real riding starts so they're getting some relaxed bonding time at the moment.
