Hi my name is Ellen my cat Maci may be missing from LIsselton Kerry. She is a multi coloured torrtie and is missed very much. She is missing since Friday evening at round 4.30. She was an indoor cat and is loved and adored very much. A house fire burnt my home down Friday evening but we did not find her body so we are hoping she got out through a broken window. i would be very grateful if people could keep an eye out for her and let AHAR know on this page. I hope we get to see her very soon again me and my partner are very heartbroken.

Did you know there were 6,132 dogs put to sleep (PTS) in 2011 in Irish dog pounds? Do you know that the majority of these dogs were healthy and were only killed because the pounds needed more space? If you havent thought about adopting before please think about it now!

Pound dogs have lots of love to give and are no different to other dogs. They have just ended up in a bad situation due to their owners not microchipping them or surrendering because they are surplus to their needs. Its not them thats the problem, their irresponsible owners are!
The message is starting to sink across Ireland all because of you…
The one who shared this post xx

My name is Mini mix. Im a neutered male, 8mnts old from Cavan pound. (It wasnt my fault. They bought a tiny pup and my legs grew so they left me on death row) Im like a tiny terrier but with longer legs and the problem is… i really want to be a lap dog. So im wondering can you help me find a home?

Tom here on behalf of AHAR……we have had the most incredible start to our fundraising campaign to purchase and develop the Rescue Centre – having raised over €21,000 in the first two weeks. In all we have to raise €100,000 so that we can secure a mortgage on the property but we will achieve this, have no doubts about that, we are absolutely committed to making this happen.

Here is where you come in, we have a couple of fund-raising ideas for May / June that have the potential to raise a considerable sum of money towards the purchase BUT we need your help. We take in animals from all over the country so we are now looking for someone in each county (we are ok in Kerry as we are based here) to be our Lead Volunteer in that county and link in with us to make these fund-raisers a success. In essence we are looking for 25 to 30 people to join us as Lead Volunteers but feel free to rope in friends and family to help out! If you have been involved in fund-raising in the past and are a good organiser then that’s a bonus but if not, don’t worry, enthusiasm and a passion for animal welfare will carry you through and we will work closely with you during the planning and roll-out of these fund-raisers.

We are a 100% Volunteer run Rescue, with your help we can change the lives of animals for decades to come – if we can pull off these fund-raisers we will take a giant leap forward towards our goal of raising the €100,000 – please help us. Send a pm for my attention with your name, contact details and county (alternatively email me at tom@ahar.ie)and I will get back to you.

    Thank you, Tom

This is the sweetest tiny collie you could meet. Hes 10/11mnts old. So playful, loves being hugged and kissed. Hes neutered, two vaccines, wormed and will be microchipped in his new owners name.
Hes a bit camera shy but who could blame him. Hes an ex pound baby and really really wants a chance to show you what a wonderful loyal friend he can be.
Have you room in your heart for him?

As of this morning we now have 96 Patrons which is fantastic.

The Patrons Scheme will continue to be the bedrock of our fund-raising for the new centre and we would love to hit the 100 mark over the next couple of days. Maybe today you can chat with a few friends and join together to become a Patron and bring us a step closer? Thanks, Tom

If you or anyone you know would like to become a Friends of AHAR Patron you can do so by going to this link http://on.ahar.ie/patron

Im so excited! 8 ex pound dogs from Kerry and Cavan are going to the UK this morning to their forever homes thanks to Gail from Allsorts dog rescue.
They are all neutered/spayed. Two vaccines, wormed and will be microchipped once they land in Gail's rescue.
We spent since 6am washing and blowdrying them so they look their best for their new homes.
They are like a shiny penny, so proud of them.
New day, new start. I hope they never look back.
Will post photos and updates next week.

  • This Bichon Frise is in Monaghan Pound. He is down as owner surrender but the owners 'bought him off the internet' only a few days before taking him to the pound. He could be a stolen dog. He is not microchipped. He has until 21st March to find a home or a place. Kennel Ref: 196. As an owner surrender he needs out of the pound now. Do you recognise him? Can you help him? 042 9664236 or 087 9634121 or from UK 00353 429664236.
